1. About ELO

What is ELO?

ELO consolidates all your truck's customs documents under a single barcode linked to the vehicle's registration number. It is under the haulier's responsibility at all times.

2. Document references to include

What to include

Each ELO and GMR must carry the correct reference numbers depending on the crossing direction. A missing reference triggers customs issues.

3. Pairing process

How the pairing works

The ELO presentation process differs depending on whether the trailer is accompanied or unaccompanied.

Accompanied

The driver presents the ELO barcode at the pit stop (tunnel) or at the checking point (ferry). Digital or printed — both accepted.

Using LeShuttle Freight Border Pass or Border Pass Easy? Your ELO is automatically linked to your Border Pass barcode — vehicle plate recognised for a faster crossing.

Unaccompanied

Pairing must be completed digitally before the trailer reaches the departure terminal. This step is mandatory and cannot be skipped.

Loaded or empty: 1 truck or trailer = 1 ELO + 1 GMR. Always.
4. During the crossing

Customs status updated in real time

Once ELO and GMR are paired and the crossing is authorised, the driver is directed to one of two lanes.

Everything is compliant — the driver exits the port or tunnel without stopping. All documentation validated in advance.

Orange Lane — Customs Control

Mandatory stop for documentary check, physical inspection, or stamping of special documents such as CHED certificates.

Troubleshooting

ELO barcode fail?

Run these three checks before escalating to your customs department.

Check truck & trailer plates

Confirm registration numbers for both truck and trailer are correct. A plate mismatch is the most common rejection cause.

Verify ELO status

Ensure the ELO has not already been "consumed" by a previous crossing. Each ELO is single-use.
